Alarm User Q & A - Sheila Clarke

It’s also great to hear alarm user's views on Lifeline24 as we want to make sure we always provide the best service possible.

We recently spoke to 81-year-old alarm user Sheila Clarke about her alarm. Sheila has been an alarm user with Lifeline24 since May 2015 and until she had a heart attack, was a carer for her husband.

Prior to her heart attack, Sheila enjoyed walking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She still loves her home, enjoys cooking and gardening but she’s not able to walk as far as she used to. We asked Sheila some questions about her alarm service, here is what she had to say:

Why did you choose to order a Personal Alarm?

The alarm was originally for my husband when it was ordered in 2015. I cared for him at home and he had quite a few things going on with his health, including dementia. I felt having a Personal Alarm, alongside help from our carers, would be beneficial as I knew I would then have help on hand when needed. Unfortunately, my husband had to go into a care home, because in 2016 I suffered a heart attack. My husband then sadly passed away in 2017.

Have you used the Personal Alarm?

I have had to use Lifeline24 many times and they always respond immediately. When I had my heart attack I pressed my button and called the Response Team, they promptly sent an ambulance. That’s when my husband went into a care home and I took over the Lifeline Alarm for my sole use.

How helpful were the Response Team during this incident?

They were very helpful. The service was prompt in both circumstances when I pressed the button for my husband and for myself.

What difference has the Personal Alarm made?

I feel more confident when I’m in the garden as I know if I fall I can press my button. My family are also very pleased that there is always help at hand.

What message would you give to those who are anxious about having a Personal Alarm?

Don't feel anxious, get a Personal Alarm! Wear it at all times and feel confident because there is help at hand whenever it’s needed.
