Assistive Technology from Norfolk County Council
Did you know that LifeConnect24 was founded in Norfolk? The Lifeline Alarm Service is a nationwide service, supporting people throughout the UK from our headquarters on the outskirts of Norwich. We’re very proud of our East Anglian roots. That’s why we’re delighted to partner with Norfolk County Council on their Assistive Technology service.
The term ‘assistive technology’ (or AT) refers to a range of electronic devices which can help you live independently in your own home. This includes products like pendant alarms, smoke detectors, and fall detectors.
How Does the Service Work?
Norfolk County Council’s Assistive Technology service is for any adult over 18 who lives in their own home (i.e. not in a residential/care home) in Norfolk.
Firstly, the Assistive Technology team will conduct a free assessment. This is to see if you would benefit from any of the AT devices available. The team will not only assess whether any of the AT devices could help you continue living independently, but also whether they could provide useful support for your carer if you have one. Most of the products are available for free on loan.
Through this service, we’re providing Lifeline Alarms to adults who need them. These life-saving devices are ideal for anyone living by themselves, particularly those who are prone to falling. We can supply cutting-edge alarms and pendants with 24/7 monitoring from our expert Response Team.
How Does a Lifeline Alarm Work?
A Lifeline Alarm ensures that you can always call for help in an emergency. Most personal alarm systems consist of a base unit and a pendant. You wear the pendant around your wrist or neck. Whenever you need assistance (after a fall, for example) you can press the button on the pendant to call for help. Our standard base unit will use your landline connection to call through to our Response Centre in an emergency. A member of our 24/7 Response Team will answer the call, assess what’s happened, and send help quickly.
During the set-up process, you’ll be able to nominate several emergency contacts. These are the people we will call to come and assist you in an emergency. If you need urgent medical help, our team will also call an ambulance on your behalf.
Installation
Every alarm in our range is easy to use and simple to install. However, for all Assistive Technology clients, the team at n-able are able to provide a free installation service. Like LifeConnect24, n-able is working in partnership with Norfolk County Council. They’ll send their expert technicians to install assistive technology equipment for you – including your Lifeline alarm.
From there, you’ll be able to test your new equipment with our friendly team. This means you can carry on with your daily routine, safe in the knowledge that help is always on-hand.
Can I Use This Service?
To request a referral to the Assistive Technology service, call Norfolk County Council’s customer service line on 0344 800 8020. Alternatively, if you already in contact with a social care worker, you can speak to them about a referral. Please note that we also offer Lifeline Alarms for those without an active landline connection.
