Elderly personal alarms can help hospitals

• Written by Josh

It has been reported over the past week or so that elderly patients are being forced to remain in hospital even though they have been medically cleared to leave. This is due to there being a lack of home care being arranged for patients. Today we explain how our elderly personal alarms could help solve the issue.

Figures released last week revealed that the number of hospital bed days lost due to a patient waiting for care packages had more than doubles over the last four years – from 143,916 in 2011/12 to 314,049 in 2015/16.

The topic is back in the news this morning with Lady Fiona Hannon being forced to remain in hospital. The 84-year-old has been stuck in hospital for the last six weeks due to a lack of proper home care being arranged. Lady Fiona would like nothing more than to return home to her husband, who suffers from Alzheimers.

Here at LifeConnect24 we believe that our products and service could be of use to the elderly and the NHS in this situation.

Elderly Personal Alarms – How they help

Our elderly personal alarms are the ideal solution for those who struggle to find suitable home care. Our device has been specifically designed for the elderly, frail and disabled – especially those who live by themselves.

Our aim is to provide help and safety for the elderly and also to help give them a boost of confidence at home. A person’s home should be the place where they feel completely safe and comfortable without having any worries about their well-being.

With our elderly personal alarms, you have ‘care’ set-up in your home without actually having a an actual person having to be there with you. Our Lifeline Case Study, Peter Johnson, agreed that this a great help to his life.

He said: “It’s a great boost to your self-confidence, and I feel much safer. It’s like having somebody there in your home and even though you can’t see them you just know that they are there waiting to help – it is brilliant.”

Our system can help to ease the pressure on the health care service, which in-turn can hopefully allow more patients to leave the hospital once they are medically cleared to do so. Of course this will also help to save the NHS money in the long-run.

How do the alarms work?

Our elderly personal alarms come in two separate parts: The Lifeline Vi Alarm Base Unit and the stylish MyAmie Pendant. The base unit is plugged into your existing telephone socket and a power socket,  whilst the MyAmie Pendant is worn around the wrist or neck. Both attachments do come with the alarm so it is up to the customer as to where they choose to wear it.

The pendant has some great features, including its impressive 100 metre range and the fact that it is waterproof. This means that you can keep wearing it outside in the garden and in the bathroom – two places where the risk of a fall increases.

If you feel unwell in your home, or have a fall, then all you need to do is push the button on your pendant. This sends a notification through to our TSA Accredited Response Team who work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year giving you a platinum service.

A member of the team will respond by calling you through the loudspeaker on the base unit. Once the situation has been assessed, he or she will then contact your emergency contacts and the emergency services if they are needed. Emergency Contacts are chosen by customers during the set-up process and usually consist of close friends, family and neighbours.
