Lifelines at home can ease NHS pressure

• Written by Josh

Reports this week have revealed that nine in ten hospitals are now deemed unsafe, with a third running out of space at least once over the winter. Here at LifeConnect24 – The UK’s most affordable personal alarm provider – we think that by having lifelines at home, the pressure on the NHS could drop.

The new figures released by the NHS show that 143 out of 154 hospital trusts across England are more than 85% occupied, which is the maximum level considered to be safe. One of the main causes of this is the bed blocking problems that have been hitting the country.

Patients are having to wait on trolleys around the hospital waiting for a bed to become free, which could take a while as some elderly patients have to remain in hospital due to home care arrangements not being put in place.

It total, hospitals have run out of beds on 517 occasions since the end of November. One hospital in North London revealed that they ran out of bed 45 times during the winter months.

This is where having lifelines in your very own home can help, as you can feel safe in the knowledge that you can call for help if you need it.

Our Lifelines

Our lifelines come in the form of a personal alarm system. They have been designed specifically for the elderly, disabled or those living by themselves. The main aim is to allow people to continue living in the comfort of their own home and to continue living independently.

By feeling more confident at home it will mean that the elderly do not have to rely on staying in hospital. They can return to there home and use the alarm if they need assistance.

The system comes in two easy-to-use parts to ensure that it is simple to live with. It comes with the alarm base unit and a MyAmie Pendant device, which connect to each other to bring help right to your front door.

The red button pendant alarms can be worn either around your wrist or around your neck, depending on the option that feels most comfortable to you. Both the wrist strap and neck cord come with the device.

The pendant is waterproof so that you can continue to wear it in the shower or bath, and it also has a range of up to 100m so that you can continue to do some gardening or sunbath during the summer months.

The base unit is essentially a plug-in and play system. All you have to do is to plug the base unit into your telephone socket and a power mains socket and you are almost ready to go. Just plug your telephone into the back of the unit and then complete a test run to finish the set-up of your new help system.

A set-up guide and test run information comes inside the box with all of our lifelines.

How they work

Once your system set-up is complete you will be looked after by a 24/7 TSA Accredited Response Team that are just one click away should you need any help providing you a platinum service.

If you feel unwell or have a fall at home then you just need to press the button on your pendant and the Response Team will receive an alert message. A member of the team will try and call you through the base unit’s loudspeaker system to see what the issue is.

After this assessment he or she will then call for your emergency contacts and ask them to come round to your home urgently. Emergency contacts are selected during the ordering process with most customers choosing family members, close friends or neighbours.

If required, the Response Team will also contact the emergency services and will provide them with your medical records just so they know what they could be dealing with.

Don’t worry if you accidentally press the help button. The Response Team is always happy to hear from you and it will serve as a good test of your system.
