We all want to give our mums a Mother’s Day to remember. They have done so much for us over the years; it’s only right we show how much we appreciate them. Whilst a meaningful gift and a heart-warming card go a long way, sometimes the best gift is our company. The question then is what to do with our time together? Fortunately, there are plenty of Mother’s Day activities to try.

This year, Mother’s Day takes place on the 19th of March. That means there’s still time to make last minute plans. If you’re struggling to decide what to do, take a look at our top 10 ideas for some additional inspiration.

10. Afternoon Tea

Whether you regularly pop over for a cuppa or rarely get the chance, going out for afternoon tea is the perfect opportunity for a catch-up. Rather than sitting down in the familiar surroundings of your mum’s living room, head out to a tearoom. As well as a cup of the finest tea in luxurious surroundings, you will also be free to sample tasty cream cakes and scones. 9. Evening Meal

A full stomach after a hearty meal is certain to leave your mum feeling appreciated. Whether you cook it for her yourself or take her out to a restaurant, she is sure to enjoy the experience. You could make it a family affair and have everyone chip in for a big meal out – except for mum, of course. Or, if your mum would prefer a quieter meal, invite a couple of her close friends round for a catch-up and dinner.

If your mum is musically inclined, why not treat her to some live music. Few Mother’s Day activities get the mind working quite like an arts and crafts workshop. It’s a great opportunity to get out of the house and try some new things. Your mum might also make some new friends in the process. There are so many activities to choose from, too. You can try pottery, flower arranging, or a life drawing class. They will stimulate the mind and could prove to be the beginning – or revival – of a hobby.

5. Beach

Sometimes the simplest activities can be the most memorable. If the weather is nice enough, head down to the beach and enjoy the sand and sea. Whilst it won’t be like a trip to the Algarve, the salt and sand could prove invigorating. Moreover, spring weather can sometimes surprise us with remarkably warm days. Sun and sand aren’t the only things to look forward to at the beach. Grab some fish & chips and take a walk along the pier. The advantage of a spring visit is that there won’t be as many people around.

4. Shopping Spree

If your mum is up to it, why not head into town and stroll around the shops. A shopping spree can be a great way to spend the day, taking your mind off day-to-day worries. Retail therapy actually works! It’s also the ideal opportunity for you to treat your mum to some new clothes or household goodies. Whilst it may be important to take breaks as you move from shop to shop, a day out on the high street will leave you both with happy memories and purchases alike.

You don’t necessarily have to go out to engage in Mother’s Day activities. Some of the best bonding experiences can take place at home. You might have some fond memories from your childhood of baking together in the kitchen. Relive those simpler times by doing some baking on Mother’s Day. You will both have some tasty treats to indulge in at the end of the day. Make some old favourites, or perhaps try something new. Did you know that the UK is home to more than 500 vineyards and 165 wineries? This means there are plenty of opportunities for you and your mum to enjoy a wine tasting experience. There are a fantastic variety of venues around the country, each dealing with a different area of interest. If your mum is an art fan, consider a trip to the local gallery. For a glimpse at history, you could visit a living museum. Something as simple as a walk around some botanical gardens is sure to please an avid gardener.
